NYK’s bulk shipping activities started over 40 years ago with the advent of specialist bulk cargo carriers. Since this date, NYK has continued to expand its Atlantic based operations and on 1st April 2007, NYK established the specialist subsidiary company, NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) NV. The head office is based in Antwerp with branch offices in London & New York, and representative staff in Rio de Janeiro and Houston, which cater to the needs of major customers based in these cities.
NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) NV is responsible for the commercial aspects, including charter and financial, and the operation of more than 30 vessels (owned and chartered) which include product tankers, dry bulkers and woodchip carriers. The dry bulk carriers which NYK operates include Cape, Panamax and Handy-sized vessels as well as semi-liners (conventional & heavy lift).
Although these vessels trade globally, their primary trade routes are focused around the Atlantic coasts of North and South America, Canada, north eastern European ports Africa and The Caribbean. Cargoes are very varied and include woodchips, soyameal, unleaded petrol (gasoline), coal and steel.
Besides the main office in Antwerp, NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) NV has branch offices in New York, with representative staff in Rio de Janeiro and Houston, and London to cater for the needs of major customers based in these cities. The focus of the dozen staff in New York is woodchip and handy-sized vessels. The small London team focus on woodchip and clean product tankers, together with experienced legal advice, since the centre of the world’s shipping law remains London.
Together everyone in NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) NV seeks to match the global strength of NYK to their local Atlantic basin knowledge to offer you a world class service.
