NYK Selected as a White 500 Company - Certifying Outstanding Health and Productivity Management

NYK was certified as the ???White 500,??? a group of large companies showing outstanding health and productivity management. This recognition is selected by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Nippon Kenko Kaigi*, and acknowledges excellent large companies that strategically carry out efforts in cooperation with an insurer to manage employee health. NYK is the only one company in the maritime industry to be included for 2017 year. This is the first year of ???White 500,??? and in all 235 companies were elected.

 

NYK has started a health-promotion project in collaboration with the NYK Health Insurance Society. Under this project, NYK offers enhanced regular health checkups, a clinic to help employees give up smoking, coaching events led by trainers of leading athletes, and seminars featuring medical specialists.

 

NYK strongly believes that promoting employee health and preventing disease helps to build a strong foundation for business activities. Considering health to be one of the highest priorities, NYK will continue to examine effective methods to improve employee well-being.

In Japan, which is battling a declining birth rate and an aging population, this organization was formed under the full support of administration to help commercial businesses offer effective activities for life extension and proper medical care. The aim is to realize concrete measures in the workplace and society through cooperation among organizations in the economic, medical, and insurance fields. The organization???s ???Declaration for a Healthy Town/Workplace 2020??? aims to recognize 500 companies engaged in managing employee health in cooperation with insurers.

NYK Vessel Rescues yachtsman in the Strait of Magellan

Frontier Ambition, a bulk carrier operated by NYK, rescued a yachtsman in distress in the Strait of Magellan on February 18.

While Frontier Ambition was sailing from Rizhao, China, to Otway, Chile, the vessel received a request from the MRCC* Punta Arenas to assist a yachtsman who had become stranded due to bad weather. The rescued yachtsman was delivered in good health from Frontier Ambition to the Chilean coast guard on February 20th.

The yachtsman offered his gratitude to the vessel and a letter of appreciation was received from the maritime authority.

NYK Cruises Announces WORLD CRUISE 2018 Schedule - A Blissful Voyage of Over 100 Days on Asuka II

NYK Cruises Co. Ltd. (head office: Yokohama; president: Hiroshi Hattori) has announced the schedule for the WORLD CRUISE 2018 aboard Asuka II. This will be the 22nd world cruise* to have been offered by Asuka II or its predecessor Asuka since 1996.

The 2018 voyage will be a 102-day cruise departing from Yokohama, Japan, on March 25, 2018, crossing the northern hemisphere, and making stops in or sailing through Asia, the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean, Europe, the Atlantic, North America, the Panama Canal, and the Pacific. The cruise will include a private tour of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and guests will also have the option of a private tour of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. In Lisbon, Portugal, a tour option will include a private dinner at the Hieronymites Monastery. **

Eight ports will be first-time stops for Asuka II: Civitavecchia, Italy; Valencia, Spain; Gibraltar, British Overseas Territory; Bilbao, Spain; Hamburg, Germany; Halifax, Canada; Saint John, Canada; and Baltimore, U.S.

Last year, NYK marked the 25th year of service by the Asuka cruise brand. The NYK Group will continue its efforts to provide high quality cruise products that meet the passions of its customers.

* The 22 world cruises include two cruises to South America and the Antarctic.

** The cruise fare does not include the shore excursions to the Sistine Chapel and Hieronymites Monastery. The number of guests for those events will be limited.

THE Alliance Announces Final Product and Unveils Unique Contingency Plan

Port rotations of 32 services finalized / First contingency mechanism of an alliance in case of financial distress of a partner / More safety for customers??? cargo

THE Alliance announced its final product after all needed preparations have been finalized. The product starting from April 2017 features fast transit times, a comprehensive port coverage and deployment of modern and most efficient ships. This is a result of the ???best ship for the loop principle??? and a dedicated shuttle service design. More than 240 ships will be deployed in 32 services connecting over 75 major ports throughout Asia, North Europe, the Mediterranean, North America, Indian subcontinent and the Middle East with a wide range of direct port-port-connections.

Furthermore, the members of THE Alliance announced a new and unique contingency plan in the unlikely event a member of THE Alliance suffers a bankruptcy. The five member lines will establish an independent trustee to manage funds to be used in the case there is insolvency within the group. It is envisioned that the fund will be used to continue alliance operations in the event of insolvency of one or more member lines. The independent trust fund shall safeguard that customers??? cargo on board of the affected members??? ships will be carried to the port of destination. Customers??? reaction to the incident last summer showed a clear demand for such a safety net and the partners of THE Alliance are proud to present the first contingency plan of its kind in liner shipping.

NYK Selected 'Best Green Shipping Line' by HAROPA for Fourth Consecutive Year

For a fourth consecutive year, NYK has been selected 'Best Green Shipping Line' by HAROPA, a joint venture comprising the French ports of Le Havre, Rouen, and Paris.

Every year since 2012, HAROPA has evaluated vessels calling its three ports and recognized shipping companies attaining high scores on the Environmental Ship Index (ESI). * NYK was one of 12 shipping lines recognized for 2015.

NYK will continue its efforts to contribute to the realization of a global environment and sustainable society, aiming to be a leading company in the safety and environmental field.

An index administered by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) to measure a ship's emissions based on the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOX), sulphur oxide (SOX), particulate matter (PM), and greenhouse gas released.
