As from 8th July 2010, NYK Line (Deutschland) GmbH will have full Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status in Germany. The AEO (Type F) certificate, which covers both Liner and RORO activities, has been granted to NYK???s offices in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf by the Customs Authority in Hamburg.

AEO status is recognised by all EU-member states and certifies that a company complies with international safety and security standards and is therefore a ???secure trader???. As a result, NYK???s customers can expect NYK to have its consignments fast-tracked through customs control.

Klaus-Peter Barth, Managing Director of NYK Line (Deutschland) GmbH, commented:

???We are very pleased to have been granted full AEO status in Germany. The benefits include a lower risk score as well as official recognition as a secure and safe partner for Government and trading partners in the international supply chain. This achievement is testament to the intensive efforts made by all our staff in our offices in Germany. ???

Customs regulations are being updated across the globe to facilitate more rapid customs clearance for internationally-traded goods. The EU Modernised Customs Code and EU Regulation 1875 set out the standards companies need to meet in order to achieve AEO status. As well as giving cargo owners clearance advantages, AEO status is set to become the hallmark by which transportation companies in Europe are judged.

NYK was one of the first ocean carriers in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) union to receive full AEO status. NYK also has AEO status in Italy, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
