England, May 2006:

Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin officially became 'green heroes' alongside NYK Logistics recently, receiving a prestigious environmental award from the archetypal green hero, Professor David Bellamy, OBE.

Having already taken silver in the Green Apple Awards for environmental best practice, the automotive manufacturers, from Ford's Premier Automotive Group, and NYK went on to collect a 'Green Heroes' trophy at an exclusive presentation ceremony at Kensington Roof Gardens on 15 May.

Recognised both in the UK and internationally as one of the major environmental recognition schemes, The Green Apple Awards and the Green Heroes campaign aim to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.

PAG and NYK were recognised for the implementation of a cross-dock network in Germany which, in addition to providing a highly robust and cost effective supply chain based on lean principles, has delivered significant environmental benefits including reduced site congestion, reduced fuel consumption, increased vehicle utilisation and reduced mileage.

Details of the initiative feature on the International Green Heroes Reference CD, distributed to environmental specialists, professionals, media, reference libraries, MPs, Ministers, Embassies, companies and councils around the world.

Roger Wolens of The Green Organisation said: "The competition in the awards is getting tougher every year, making this a tremendous achievement for the winners.

"Contenders are required to continually reach new levels of environmental success and this campaign helps and encourages others to follow their good example, with the aim of improving our environment for generations to come."
