NYK Logistics UK Ltd has won the Environment Award at the UK Warehouse Association???s (UKWA) annual Awards for Warehousing.

The UKWA is a leading trade association dedicated to the warehousing and logistics sector and its Awards for Warehousing, held this year at London???s Dorchester Hotel, aim to reward excellence in third-party logistics.

The Environment Award is presented to the company that has shown the best application of environmentally friendly processes, procedures or monitoring during the year. In deciding the 2010 winner of the award, out of 62 entrants, the judges looked for evidence of companies reducing both the amount of energy they use and the amount of CO2 they emit.

As an early adopter of teardrop trailers (aerodynamic trailers designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions) and biodiesel vehicles, NYK has long been at the forefront of environmental innovation. For the UKWA award, the company???s key achievements include: a 35 per cent reduction in electricity consumption across its UK sites; a decrease in CO2 emissions by 11 per cent per vehicle across its fleet; a 46 per cent fall in the amount of waste it sends to landfill and a 54 per cent reduction in the number of ???waste miles??? driven by the company.

Darral Beresford, NYK Logistics??? Quality & Environmental Manager, said: ???This award reflects the investment, ingenuity and hard work that NYK Logistics has dedicated to reducing its impact on the environment.
